The Skechers Slip-Ins Craze – Are They Good for Arthritic Knees?

They’re everywhere – in my clinic, at the hospital, and even on the high street. Skechers slip-ins have become a firm favourite, especially for people living with knee arthritis.

Why? They’re light, soft, and incredibly easy to put on. For anyone with arthritic knees, the ability to slip shoes on without bending deeply or struggling with laces is a real confidence booster. It helps maintain independence, reduces knee strain, and keeps you moving comfortably.

But a question I hear a lot is: “Are they actually good for my knees?”

Let’s break it down.

Why People With Arthritic Knees Love Skechers Slip-Ins

Skechers slip-ins are popular for a reason:

  • Hands-free design: No deep bending, which protects sore knees.
  • Cushioned soles: Soft underfoot, reducing impact on stiff joints.
  • Lightweight and flexible: Moves with your foot, not against it, making them easier on knees and hips.

This combination of comfort and convenience makes them perfect for short walks, indoor use, or recovery days.

Comfort Isn’t Enough – Look for Support

While comfort is important, for arthritic knees, shoes also need support and alignment.

Shoes that are too soft or flat can let your feet roll inward, which changes knee mechanics, loading them unequally and can worsen pain. Over time, this may also affect hips and lower back.

My tip: look for the Skechers Arch Fit range. These provide gentle yet firm support under your arches, helping your knees track correctly and reducing strain with every step.

Physio Tip: Keep Your Body Moving

Slip-ins can be really helpful for many however, small daily movements that cause us to bend like putting shoes on the traditional way help to keep you moving for years to come. Keep moving and bending if you can your body will thank you.

Final Thoughts

Skechers slip-ons are comfortable, convenient, and confidence-boosting, perfect for people with arthritic knees. But not all slip-ons are created equal.

If you have knee arthritis, look for Arch Fit or supportive midsoles to protect your joints, maintain alignment, and reduce strain. Combine these shoes with my arthritic knee program, and you’ll be supporting your knees while staying independent and comfortable.

James Hahnal – Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

I have worked with Helen for many years at Leeds Nuffield hospital where I work as a specialist hip and knee surgeon. As part of my practice we have plenty of patients who have problems with their back. I occasionally struggle with my own back and know Helen is the lady to help sort it out. Not only did she give brilliant care in terms of getting it going again, but she also gave some great advice to keep it in great shape. I have been following this for the last couple of years and have been abusing my back with games of squash since with no problems. Thanks for the great care. Would definitely recommend.
