Best Pickleball Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis (a.k.a. Plantar Fascia Pain)

If heel pain is spoiling your pickleball game, you’re not alone

Pickleball is meant to be fun and energising — but if you’ve been dealing with that nagging pain in your heel or arch (especially first thing in the morning or after a match), you’ve probably heard the term plantar fasciitis thrown around.

Plantar fasciitis used throughout this blog — and that’s because it’s still the most recognised term online. However, as our understanding has evolved, we now know that this pain isn’t usually caused by inflammation (-itis) but more often by degeneration, poor health and irritation of the fascia.

So terms such as plantar fasciopathy, plantar fascia pain, plantar heel pain, or heel pain syndrome are more factually correct, it’s confusing I know!

Whatever you call it, the bottom line is: supportive footwear can make a huge difference.

First things first — are you sure it’s plantar fascia pain?

Heel and arch pain can come from a few different sources, and it’s not always plantar fascia pain (even if it feels like it). That’s why I always recommend a proper self-assessment before jumping into solutions. If you’d like help figuring it out, I’ve created a FREE Plantar Fascia Pain Assessment — we’ll look at your foot together, help confirm what’s going on, and explore the best way to start resolving this frustrating issue.

What to Look for in Pickleball Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

Shoes won’t fix plantar fascia pain on their own (more on that later), but the right pair can really reduce strain on your heel and arch so you can keep playing.

Look for these features:

  • Excellent arch support – to help reduce tension through the plantar fascia
  • Good cushioning, especially under the heel
  • A slight heel-to-toe drop – flat shoes can increase discomfort
  • Stiff soles or shanks – to limit excessive bending through the midfoot
  • A secure fit with no slippage – movement inside the shoe increases irritation

ASICS Gel-Renma Pickleball Shoes

Stable, cushioned, and arch-supportive
If you’re after solid support and good cushioning under the heel, these are a brilliant option. They’ve got a sturdy feel without being clunky, and they help take the pressure off that sore spot in your foot. A great choice if you need to feel stable and supported on the court.

K-Swiss Express Light Pickleball Shoe

Lightweight with a structured midsole
These have a nice balance — light enough to move easily, but with enough structure to support your arch and heel. They’ve got a firm sole and feel secure around the foot, which can really help reduce irritation during quick side steps and pivots.

New Balance 696 V5 Hard Court Shoe

Sleek, supportive and budget-friendly
This one feels soft and comfy straight out the box, but still gives you the support you need under the heel. It’s a solid, no-fuss option if you want something that’s kind on sore feet and feels good even after a long match.

Bonus Tip: Not Wanting New Trainers Try Insoles

Adding a high-quality insole can dramatically improve comfort and reduce knee pain — especially if you need extra arch support or shock absorption.

TOP TIP – Don’t put these in trainers that already have good support. you will lose the support designed by the trainer.

But for existing unsupportive shoes then this may be the way to go. I have used these in clinic for years with good result – Pro 11 Wellbeing Insoles

A Quick Word on Strength

Shoes and innersoles can support your foot — but they can’t strengthen it or resolve the underlying reason for your pain.

If your plantar fascia is painful, it’s often a sign of overload. Learning how to strengthen your foot and calf muscles, improve your ankle control, and gradually build tissue resilience is key to long-term progress.

As a physio, I’ve helped many people recover from plantar fascia pain with a mix of smart loading, gentle mobility work, and supportive advice. If you’d like help with this then my Plantar Fascia Pain Program does just that. Click to learn more. You deserve to enjoy the game without limping off court

The right pickleball shoes won’t cure plantar fascia pain — but they can take the edge off your symptoms, reduce strain on your heel, and make moving around the court far more comfortable. Combined with the right rehab approach, they can be a valuable part of your recovery journey.

So if you’re dealing with plantar fascia pain, don’t give up on the game you love. Support your feet, strengthen what matters, and take it one step at a time — you’ll be back to playing pain-free before you know it.

I have worked with Helen for many years at Leeds Nuffield hospital where I work as a specialist hip and knee surgeon. As part of my practice we have plenty of patients who have problems with their back. I occasionally struggle with my own back and know Helen is the lady to help sort it out. Not only did she give brilliant care in terms of getting it going again, but she also gave some great advice to keep it in great shape. I have been following this for the last couple of years and have been abusing my back with games of squash since with no problems. Thanks for the great care. Would definitely recommend.
